PTR Triumph’s Tom Booth-Amos got a blistering start to today’s 19-lap FIM Supersport World Championship race one at the Autodrom Most, claiming six places off the line from his grid position of P13. Booth-Amos was fighting in seventh place on lap three when he ran on into the gravel at turn thirteen, re-joining down in sixteenth. The British rider had lost nine seconds but he fought back through the field to finish in eighth place.
Tom Booth-Amos: “I had a great start and good first laps but then unfortunately went into the gravel, coming back in sixteenth. I dug deep and managed to fight back to eighth. Really happy with the results all things considered so will try to better it tomorrow.”
Czech favourite Ondrej Vostatek achieved his weekend aim of a points scoring finish in front of his home crowd after a fierce battle with Bayliss for P11. The pair traded places until lap fourteen when Oncu saw his opportunity and took both riders in one manœuvre, demoting Vostatek to P13 at the line.
Ondrej Vostatek: “Finally a good race for us. The start and the first corner were ok. I tried to manage the rear tyre for the end of the race and we were stronger on the brakes too. In the end of the race I struggled with grip so it was difficult to fight. Anyway, we know what to improve and I’m happy because we moved somewhere, all the team did a great job.”
PTR Triumph Team Manager Simon Buckmaster: “We made some changes for the race. It was a great start by Tom and then he decided to have a ride through the gravel but after that he came back really strongly to finish eighth. I’m sure we had top six pace again so that’s really positive for the team. Ondrej took a big step this weekend after a lot of discussion between him, myself and his crew chief about the need to be more relaxed and focused. I have to take my hat off to him for working in a much better way, it’s clear to see from his results he is back to the level where we were at the end of last year. He is strong in the points, we can see the possibility of top ten so great work by the team and we are looking forward to tomorrow’s race.”
In today’s extreme heat at the Autodrom Most, PTR Triumph’s Ondrej Vostatek again collected Championship points in the second FIM Supersport World Championship race of the weekend.
In front of the sell-out home crowd, the Czech youngster delivered a strong twelfth place finish to equal his best result so far with PTR Triumph.
Ondrej Vostatek: “The second race was tough, the temperature was much higher than yesterday. Start was good, right in front of me was a crash and I avoided it. I was fighting with Oncu and Corsi for the top ten and it was great fight. I tried to overtake Oncu into corner one and I was wide. I rejoined in P12 fighting with Corsi. It was a great weekend for us, I’m happy we finally made a step forward. Well done team.”
Tom Booth-Amos was looking to improve on his P8 in Race One yesterday but he took ill overnight with acute gastroenteritis. After being examined and treated by the Medical Director, he was unfortunately declared unfit to take part in the race today.
Tom Booth-Amos: “Sorry to everyone, I’ll be back in Portimão.”
PTR Triumph Team Manager Simon Buckmaster: “Really great ride by Ondrej in race two. He was really fighting to be in the top ten. He tried to outbrake Oncu into turn one, he looked right to see who was there and had to go straight on. He really fought from there but there wasn’t enough time left to make the gap up. By far the best ride of the season and during the time he has ridden our bike. A huge step in the right direction for him this week and it’s a good confidence boost as we head to Portimão. Obviously we are disappointed that Tom couldn’t ride but he will be fine in Portimão. A great job by the whole team, let’s look forward to the next round.”
