Three podiums for Leon Haslam and the ROKiT BMW Motorrad British Superbike Team at Oulton Park

The ROKiT BMW Motorrad BSB Team headed to Oulton Park for round 2 of the Bennetts British Superbike’s last weekend, fresh from the official test just a couple of weeks ago.

Leon had a solid start to the weekend and was firmly within the top 4 places throughout the free practice sessions. Leon then continued his pace into Qualifying and as a result put himself on the front row of the grid, P2 ahead of Sunday afternoon’s sprint race.

The opening race of the weekend at Oulton Park was interrupted with rain, however that would not stop Leon Haslam claim his first podium of the year following a red flag on lap 11, and with ¾ race distance being completed, the results would be final. 2nd Position.

Haslam went into final day of Round 2 full of confidence and battled hard throughout the first feature race, trading places with Andrew Irwin and Glen Irwin over the 18 laps. It would be a drag race to the line on the final lap which would hand the ROKiT BMW Motorrad BSB Team their second podium of the weekend for 3rd place.

Despite setting the fastest lap of the race in Race 2, the team were demoted 6 grid positions for the final race of the weekend, due to not declaring to race direction a change of gearbox from Round 1. Haslam was determined to make up positions on the opening laps, and after lap 1 was in 4th place. It was an intense battle for the win in the latter stages of the race, but Leon would eventually claim a third podium of the weekend in 2nd position.

Simon Green – Team Coordinator

“Fantastic weekend for the team obviously to come away from Oulton Park with two seconds and a third place, it’s a testament to how hard everyone is working to get Leon to the front. As usual Oulton provided some close racing and I think the minor set back in the final race only spurred Leon on to ride harder. We start preparations now for Donington Park, Leon’s home track where we hope to replicate this weekend’s results.”

Leon Haslam – Rider #91

“It’s been a really good weekend for us. Going into this weekend with a new engine wasn’t easy, especially with the weather conditions as we didn’t get many dry laps, but the boys did good getting us into a strong position. Coming away with 3 podiums was great, I felt like in the final race I could have gone for the win, but we are still lacking in some areas. But like I said I’m over the moon with three podiums and now I’m looking forward to my home race at Donington Park.”
