OMG Yamaha set their sights on victory at Donington Park

The OMG GRILLA Yamaha Team are determined to return to the top step this weekend, as the Bennetts British Superbike Championship rolls into Donington Park for the third round of the 2024 season.

Having two race wins, and four further podium finishes to their name so far this year, the OMG GRILLA Yamaha squad are targeting more success this weekend, as the Bennetts BSB series returns to East Midlands’ Donington Park.

Following a strong start to 2024, Ryan Vickers will be aiming to carry his fine form on at a circuit where he achieved his first Bennetts British Superbike podium along with a stunning wet weather win towards the end of last season. The Thetford-based rider made solid progress across the two-day test at Donington in April and will be searching to build upon his podium result in Race 3 at Oulton Park over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend.

On the other side of the garage, Kyle Ryde is revved up ahead of his home round, after an unfortunate technical problem forced the number 77 out of the final race at Oulton Park. A local circuit for Ryde, the 26-year-old is hoping to put on a strong show for his fans, friends and family, who will pack the banks of Leicestershire’s 2.49-mile circuit, as he searches for his first win of the season.

The team will hit the ground running on Friday, aiming to make the most of the data gained at the season’s opening test, which saw the team finish in first and third at the famous British venue.

The action commences on Friday, 17th May, for the all-important free practice sessions, with Qualifying 1 and the return of Omologato Superpole, taking place on Saturday. The weekend will see three more action-packed BSB races, with Race 1 on Saturday afternoon before the weekend concludes with the Sprint Race and Race 3 on Sunday.

Championship: 2nd (68 points)
“I’m excited for Donington Park, a track I have great memories at, scoring my first BSB podium and taking a win in the wet last season. We had a strong test earlier this year and make big steps with the setup of the bike, which together with saving the tyres with the new surface, will be important for this weekend. It looks like it’s going to stay dry, so if we can get some podiums and a couple of wins, it’ll be a nice way to keep the ball rolling ahead of the short break.”

Championship: 5th (55 points)
“The bike and the pace at Oulton Park were great, I just got unlucky with the technical issue, but I’ve put the last race behind me and I’m looking forward to getting back on my R1 this weekend. The pace at the Donington Test was really quick and overall, the feeling was great, so we’ll be looking for some more of that this weekend. This round is, of course, my home round. It will be a busy one for sure, but I’m looking forward to getting out there and hopefully putting on a strong show for the fans, collecting some trophies and bagging some more important points for the Championship.”

Alan Gardner
OMG GRILLA Yamaha, Team Owner

“It’s been a busy few weeks for some of our team members, but we’re all excited to get back to BSB action at Donington this weekend. The guys have worked tirelessly to ensure both bikes are ready to go, and I know Ryan and Kyle have been working hard too. Luckily, we’re coming into this weekend with a bit of prior knowledge having tested at the track earlier in the year, so both sides of the garage have a direction to follow come Friday practice. Hopefully, we can make the most of that and come away with three solid results for both riders.”

Paul Curran
OMG GRILLA Yamaha, Team Principal

“We’re looking forward to return to Donington Park this weekend. Oulton Park was a productive weekend, and we learnt a lot which we can put into action at Donington. Ryan’s team really found their way at the Donington Test, so I know they’ll be excited to test their findings in a race situation and build upon their strong start to the season. Kyle was fast at the test too, a 1:27.650 was just outside the lap record, so he will be looking to use that form to bounce back from Race 3 at Oulton and secure a trio of top results at his home BSB round.”
