OMG GRILLA Yamaha set to continue title push at Donington Park

OMG GRILLA Yamaha are keen to return to the track this weekend, as the Bennetts British Superbike Championship visits Donington Park for the second showdown round of the 2024 season.

OMG GRILLA Yamaha returns to Donington Park this weekend as the Bennetts BSB title fight enters its penultimate round at the East Midlands venue.

Following a strong points haul at Oulton Park, which saw him cut the lead in the standings to just six points, Kyle Ryde is eager to return to his local circuit, which treated him to a Race 1 win earlier this season. Being his home track, Ryde knows every inch of the 2.49-mile venue and hopes his experience will pay off across the three races. Since Oulton Park’s success, the Nottinghamshire rider and the OMG team enjoyed a strong day on track at Donington and aim to hit the ground running in Friday’s opening session.

Ryan Vickers will return to action with nothing but redemption on his mind, after a crash in a sodden Oulton Park Race 3 prematurely ended his fight for victory. Vickers, who sits sixth in the standings and 106 points from the top, has unfinished business at the Leicestershire circuit, having crashed out of Race 2 earlier in the year, resulting in a fractured collarbone.

The OMG GRILLA Yamaha team kick off their weekend on Friday 27th September with Free Practice 1 at 10:45 with the fight for Qualifying 2 concluding with Free Practice 2 at 15:35. Saturday’s action starts with Practice 3 before Qualifying which sets the grid for the first of two 20-lap races at 16:00. Round 10 concludes with morning warm up, the 12:15 sprint race and final 20-lap race at 16:30.

Championship: 2nd (328 points)
“I’m coming into Donington Park with a lot of confidence after recent rounds. Both Cadwell and Oulton Park were really strong rounds for myself and the team, and I want to carry that momentum forward. I love Donington Park, it’s my local track and I can’t wait to ride my R1 there again. We had a day on track straight after Oulton Park and learnt a few things that we can put into action this weekend, but rain or shine I’ll be ready to keep fighting for this Championship.”

Championship: 6th (228 points)
“Donington Park is one of my favourite circuits on the calendar and both me and the Yamaha R1 go well there. I’m looking forward to continuing the speed we’ve had and get some good results this weekend. Of course, we’re aware of what’s at stake this year as a team, so if I’m in a position to help Kyle at all then that’s what we’ll do. I’m looking forward to it!”

Alan Gardner
OMG GRILLA Yamaha, Team Owner

“The team are really excited to start this weekend at Donington Park, it’s really getting towards crunch time with just two rounds to go. With that said, there’s still a lot of points left with 180 points still up for grabs across Donington and Brands Hatch. Both Kyle and Ryan were fast earlier this year and Kyle had a strong test day there last week. As always, the team will give it their all both on and off track and we’ll look to head to Brands Hatch in as much of comfortable position in the title fight as possible.”

Paul Curran
OMG GRILLA Yamaha, Team Principal

“We’re heading into Donington Park full of confidence following the recent rounds we’ve had as a team. Kyle’s run he’s in at the minute is remarkable, he has won four of the last six races and looks to continue that at a circuit he loves. The R1 has been strong at Donington too, in all conditions. Both Kyle and Ryan have won there on the Yamaha, and we know that they’ll be in the mix this weekend. We’ll fight for three solid results and keep in a good position ahead of the season finale at Brands Hatch.”
