Succeeding last night’s Radcliffe Butchers Supersport encounter, the S&S Motors Supersport A-race got underway four minutes behind schedule at 10:33 AM.
There was early disappointment for Duke Road Race Rankings leader Michael Sweeney whos’ challenge concluded on the warm-up lap.
Making the swiftest start was Milenco by Padgetts Davey Todd, hotly pursued by DAO Racing’s Dean Harrison.
On the run to Cross Four Ways, Todd headed Harrison, which remained the order as lap one concluded.
KTS Racing’s Jamie Coward, Michael Dunlop wasn’t far behind with only 0.981 covering the top four.
The ‘big four’ out front, kept close proximity across lap two, Todd maintained P1, holding a 0.279 advantage over Harrison who in turn was under 0.4 clear of new third place holder Dunlop.
Lap three’s conclusion would see no change in the top four order, it was still anyone’s race.
As lap five dawned, Dunlop lapping at 110.316 mph had moved up to second and was only 0.139 down on 2019 IRRC Superbike Champion Todd.
Soon with typical determination, Dunlop had grabbed the lead from Todd.
Just 0.329 separated Dunlop, Todd, Harrison as lap five ended, who could find that extra piece of magic, extra piece of star quality to win this gripping 600cc encounter.
The answer was 21 times TT winner, 109 times Irish road race winner Dunlop after a frantic final lap.
Dunlop set the fastest lap of the race on the final lap, lapping at 2 minutes 18.203 seconds.
DAO Racing’s Harrison placed second, only 0.159 in arrears to respected rival Dunlop.
Long term race leader Todd took third with Hebden Bridge’s Coward taking fourth.
Dafabet Racing’s Rob Hodson placed fifth as PreZ Racing’s Paul Jordan, Nathan Harrison, Rhys Hardisty, Marcus Simpson, Jamie Williams completed the top ten finishers.
