Hager PBM Ducati’s Glenn Irwin halted the Yamaha charge at the top of the times after the opening day of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship R&G Official Test at Oulton Park, setting the pace-setting lap in the final five minutes of the afternoon session.
The time initially put Irwin ahead by 0.009s, but his next flying lap put him 0.138s ahead of the flying OMG GRILLA Yamaha Racing teammates led by Kyle Ryde, with just 0.061s between the pair at the end of the opening day on track.
Reigning champion Tommy Bridewell posted the fourth fastest time for Honda Racing UK to maintain his position ahead of FHO Racing BMW Motorrad Team’s Peter Hickman and Jason O’Halloran on the Completely Motorbikes Kawasaki as five different manufacturers featured in the top six.
Josh Brookes held seventh place for the FHO Racing BMW Motorrad Team as he moved ahead of Christian Iddon on the Oxford Products Racing Ducati in the latter stages of the afternoon. McAMS Racing Yamaha’s Danny Kent and ROKiT Haslam Racing BMW Motorrad’s Leon Haslam completed the top ten.
