This weekend, from 22 to 24 April, the second round of the FIM Supersport World Championship will take place at the TT Circuit Assen. The circuit situated in Drenthe is Ten Kate Racing’s home circuit as it is a less than forty minutes’ drive from the team’s home base in Nieuwleusen.
After the successful opening weekend at Motorland Aragon, which put Ten Kate Racing in the lead of the championship with a second place and a win, the team is looking for more success with reigning World Champion Dominique Aegerter. In 2021, the Swiss rider was on pole position at Assen with a new lap record and won both races convincingly. During a private test at the TT Circuit Assen three weeks ago, important work was done to prepare the Yamaha YZF-R6 and Aegerter himself as well as possible for the upcoming race weekend.
During that test Leonardo Taccini also made important mileage on the for him quite new Yamaha YZF-R6, and the for him completely new TT Circuit Assen. The Italian will be working with the team to make further progress after Motorland Aragon showed that Taccini has the speed.
In addition, the paddock will be fully open again this weekend for the first time in two years. Ten Kate Racing looks forward to welcoming all sponsors and partners back to Assen as well as seeing the many fans in the paddock during the activities and shows that will be organised for them.
Dominique Aegerter: “I am happy to start the second race weekend of the season, Ten Kate Racing’s home race. Unfortunately we cannot ride with the yellow livery again this weekend, but it will be a great weekend nonetheless. We tested in Assen three weeks ago in quite cold conditions, but we found good information that we can use this weekend. It will be nice to not only have all the team there, but also all the sponsors and partners of the team. After two years the paddock is finally completely open again. I hope I can give them a good result. Of course we have great memories from the track from last year, the clear goal is to score good points for the championship and try to fight for the win.”
Leonardo Taccini: “The only thing I want from this weekend is to improve again and to make the best out of every situation that we can. Let’s try to build on the weekend we had in Aragón, where the pace was there but the results finally didn’t come. I am looking forward to race in front of the team’s home crowd. We already tested in Assen last month and I think the track is beautiful. Let’s make it a great weekend.”
Kervin Bos – team manager: “Assen is just around the corner, the second round of the year. We are currently leading the championship and there is no better position to start your home race. The team, the sponsors and the riders are all looking forward to race at ‘The Cathedral of Speed’. It will be the first race weekend where the paddock is fully open again, so we can welcome a large number of guests on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Both riders are in great shape and the team had the exclusive opportunity to test here a month ago, so we expect to be fully prepared for the first free practice on Friday morning. We are looking forward to the races on Saturday and Sunday like no other, with a lot of spectators of course.”
