The McAMS Yamaha team will be holding their heads high and looking to bounce back as the 2022 Bennetts British Superbike Championship heads to its penultimate round this weekend.
Round 10 of the championship comes less than a week after Round 9 saw the team suffer a devastating weekend in which Tarran Mackenzie was ruled out of action for the remainder of the season with a broken femur and Jason O’Halloran’s title hopes took a huge hit when he was taken out of two consecutive races in two similar incidents involving contact with other riders.
Mackenzie underwent surgery on his fractured femur on Monday and is already at home recovering. With Donington Park a stone’s throw from his Ashby de la Zouche home, the reigning champion is hoping to visit the team this weekend if he’s feeling up to it.
O’Halloran, who has won more races than any other rider in the last two years, was walking wounded after his two incidents, but following check-ups with a specialist on Tuesday has been cleared for race action this weekend, returning to the scene of two dominant victories earlier this year.
Donington Park was also the scene of a race victory for Tim Neave and the Edwards 1902 Yamaha team in the National Superstock Championship back in May – they’ll be keen to replicate that success as the Lincolnshire rider continues to bounce back from injury.

“Fortunately, after a check up following Oulton we have been given the all clear to race. I’m a bit battered and bruised but we’ve seen improvement in the few days off and I am feeling good and very keen to bounce back at Donington this weekend. It’s a strong track for us, we won two races there earlier in the year and I am absolutely committed to ending the season on a high and taking McAMS Yamaha back to the top step where we belong.”

“Donington holds really good memories for us as it was the scene of our last win! The R1 is a really strong package there so I’m confident we can run at the front this weekend after many positives for me at Oulton Park. Hopefully the weather holds out!”

“Oulton Park was one of the worst weekends we have had in 30 years of racing. It was a hugely testing round for the entire team to see our hard work over the last eight rounds go up in smoke after taking ten race victories and 20 podiums this season.
“Unfortunately, that’s the end of the season for Tarran as he focuses on his recovery from a fractured femur. We’re so incredibly proud of everything he has achieved in a very difficult year and we’ll continue to support him all the way.
“Jason is one of the strongest and most talented riders on the Superbike grid. Over the last two years, he’s won more races than any other rider so for his title hopes to take a hit like that is crushing. Fortunately, he escaped relatively unscathed and can brush himself off, get back up and continue at Donington Park this weekend.
“As a team, we will now draw a line under Oulton Park as our focus turns to moving forward and giving it our all over the remaining two rounds to bounce back in the strongest way possible.”
