Danny Buchan claimed the King of the Mountain title at Cadwell Park for SYNETIQ BMW after a fabulous double victory and race one third place at the Bennetts British Superbike Championship Bank Holiday meeting.
It was Buchan’s first victories of the 2022 BSB season aboard the TAS Racing prepared M 1000 RR and his matchless haul of points [66] has pushed him within touching distance of the all-important Showdown as the leading BMW Motorrad machine in the series.
His team-mate Andrew Irwin also featured strongly taking 28 points [6-7-7] from the three BSB races at the famous parkland circuit, which saw record crowds in attendance during the Bank Holiday bonanza.
Danny Buchan: “Obviously over the moon to get the double win today for the SYNETIQ BMW team. A big effort from everyone. It’s been a good weekend that started well with the test sessions, where we tried some different things with the TAS Racing prepared M 1000 RR. We were dominant and leading the races from start to finish, for me, was quite a big achievement, but the team gave me the bike to do that. Now we are in Showdown contention so it will be all guns blazing at Snetterton.”
Andrew Irwin: “I had a much better weekend and the SYNETIQ BMW team did a great job. A sixth place and a pair of sevenths were hard fought results, as we were in the mix for top four today in both races. In the last race today I maybe wanted that fourth place a little too much on the TAS Racing prepared M 10000 RR, but we continued to learn more about the bike and gained some valuable information going forward. Danny really proved how good our M 1000 RR package is, so I’m now looking forward to Snetterton. The goal is to have another strong weekend and hopefully help Danny cement his place in the Showdown.”
Steve Plater – Team Manager: “A fabulous weekend for SYNETIQ BMW and the guys did a great job all round. We’ve made a big step forward this weekend after a tough few meetings for us. The team around the guys have done an awesome job, stuck with it, and made both Danny and Andrew feel comfortable and confident and we’ve reaped the rewards with three podiums and that double win from Danny, the King of Cadwell. Andrew’s results maybe don’t show the massive improvement he’s made. He’s certainly going to be fast at Snetterton and will help Danny get into the Showdown.”
Philip Neill – Team Principal: “We’ve known all along this was achievable and over the last few days our stars have thankfully aligned. It’s not before time, as it’s been frustrating for us all, but everyone including the riders have dug in and kept the faith. This is the bi-product of all that hard work with the TAS Racing prepared M 1000 RR. Danny looked back to his best this weekend and today never looked like he was prepared to be beaten. Andrew also showed grit and determination this weekend, fighting back after a qualifying crash and was involved in some tremendously close battles. The goal now is consistency and to take this form into the final four rounds regardless of the Showdown outcome. Thanks to the whole team for a massive effort as always and to BMW Motorrad, SYNETIQ and all our associate sponsors for the continued support.”
