Hager PBM Ducati rider Glenn Irwin heads to Brands Hatch for round six of the 2024 Bennetts British Superbike Championship in buoyant mood after reclaiming the lead in the title race after a double victory at Snetterton two weeks ago.
The 34 year old from Carrickfergus, County Antrim bounced back after a disappointing round at Knockhill to emerge victorious at the previous round and as a result leads the series by four points over rival Tommy Bridewell.
Those two wins took Irwin’s tally to six for the season as he returns to the venue which saw him just miss out on the title last October by the narrowest of margins to his then teammate Bridewell, despite winning two of the three races.
Bridewell won two of the races at the corresponding meeting last July meaning the PBM team won four of the six races to be held at Brands Hatch last season, and as a result the team and Irwin are hopeful that the winning run can continue as this year’s series hits the half way point.
Glenn Irwin: “As I always do, I’m looking forward to going to Brands Hatch and hoping we can get some more wins under our belt. I have a great feeling with the bike and I’m feeling good in myself so hopefully we can carry that energy forward from the previous round. I’m grateful to the whole team for what they are giving me and there’s a great buzz within the team. We need to continue working on our package as we still need to improve in a couple of areas and I need to keep adapting to various factors also, as we have different strengths and weaknesses compared to last year. Brands Hatch is one of most iconic racetracks in the world and there’s always a great crowd so let’s go and put on a show again.”
Jordan Bird, Team Owner: “After a double win and a solid fifth in the wet at Snetterton we’re really pleased to have the next couple of rounds close together, starting with Brands Hatch this weekend. Brands has always been a successful hunting ground for PBM and we are all looking forward to continuing our hard work and to add to our six BSB wins so far this year. Thank you to all our partners and supporters as always, let’s look forward to another great weekend’s racing. Plus the weather is looking great so after a couple of wet meetings, let’s keep our fingers crossed! Also, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the well wishes after my surgery last week, I’m recovering well and looking forward to the weekend.”
