Catalunya marks start of the European season for PTR Triumph

PTR Triumph head to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya as round two of the 2024 FIM Supersport World Championship signals the start of the European races this weekend, 22-24 March.

The 4.6km circuit just outside of Barcelona has been good to PTR Triumph’s Tom Booth-Amos in the past. The 28-year-old has the happy memory of taking his first World Championship win there in the WorldSSP300 Championship in 2020 and the British rider is looking to challenge at the front once again this weekend.

Tom Booth-Amos: “After a difficult first round I’m looking forward to switching it around this weekend.  Barcelona is one of my favourites as I took my first World Championship win there.  I can’t wait to get back working with the guys.”

The Catalan circuit is also a favourite of teammate, Ondrej Vostatek who is looking for a strong result after spending the short break after Philip Island, training hard in Spain.

Ondrej Vostatek: “I think there is a really good weekend ahead of us. I think the new improvements in the tight corners will work very well. Also, I spent the week after the first race in Spain and I trained a lot so I have a good feeling about his weekend.”

PTR Triumph Team Manager Simon Buckmaster: “The results in Australia were disappointing but Tom showed he had the pace to run right at the front but for the mistake and crashing out of race one. Obviously he was nowhere near fully fit for race two but he did grab some points and that was good.  A couple of points for Ondrej in race one but he wasn’t riding at the same level as he was at the end of 2023.  We need to work on the focus and concentration with Ondrej, the talent is there so we need to work together as a team to get the best out of him.  It’s the first race in Europe, it’s a great track and we’ve had podiums there in the past so we’re looking forward to it. We want to bounce back and show what we can do. We’re a good team with a great bike and riders, so let’s look forward to the weekend”.
