Andrew Irwin rewards Synetiq BMW with a podium finish at Donington Park

Andrew Irwin took a well deserved second placed podium finish in race three of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship earlier today at Donington Park’s penultimate round of the season.

It was the second podium of the season for the SYNETIQ BMW mounted Northern Irishman who also recorded a fourth placed finish in race two at the iconic Leicestershire venue.

His team mate Danny Buchan took 19 points from the three races and still leads the British Superbike Championship Riders’ Cup going into the final round at Brands Hatch in a fortnight’s time.

Danny Buchan

“Strange weekend for me. We made small improvements all weekend but they weren’t enough. For the last race we changed a significant part and I was able to fight at the front and find a lot more in terms of race pace. I’m looking forward to heading to Brands Hatch in a couple of weeks to fight for the Riders’ Cup.”

“It was a positive weekend; I knew we could do a good job and the podium in race 3 was a result of that. No crashes and we  are going in the right direction. Let’s finish the season strongly at Brands now on the SYNETIQ BMW. Thanks to the team for the usual strong effort.”

Steve Plater – Team Manager

“A strong weekend for Andrew with a podium and a P4 and only for a technical fault in race one he would have recorded something similar. He was under the lap record also in race 3 so he’s definitely going in the right direction with the bike. Danny had a tough weekend but still leads the Riders’ Cup so it was a positive weekend and we can look forward to Brands with optimism as a team.”

Philip Neill – Team Principal

“A consistent weekend for Andrew, which is encouraging and he put together some strong results and showed great determination for his podium on the SYNETIQ BMW M 1000 RR to round it all off. Danny struggled a little but the boys made a change for the final race and it proved a move in the right direction and that fifth place was important. The goal now is to get them both consistently at the sharp end in all sessions and races at Brands to finish the season, but this weekend was very encouraging. Thanks to the boys in the garage for another big effort this weekend; the hospitality crew for looking after the guests and our sponsors for the continued support.”
